Small tubing: the need for high precision

In Planes we have opted for a service that some customers find it difficult to find: precision cutting in small diameter tube.

We have reserved part of the circular cold saw cutting machinery for tubes between 6 and 8 mm in diameter. The high volume of pieces that can handle these cold saw cutting machines allows to work small tubing very quickly, by processing many pieces at once.

The result is a clean cut with very little burr, which then only need to be polished and cleaned in the deburring machine.

Small tube cutting is used mainly in the automotive industry for engine applications or rods inside seats, for example.

Burrs and not precise cut are particularly problematic in small tubing, especially in thin-walled tubes. For this reason a precise, quick cut that produces a minimal burr is needed, so that the thinner-walled tubes do not get deformed. On the other hand, small tubing requires a cut that handles large volumes of production at a time, otherwise it would be necessary to spend more time on the machine, which would make the process more expensive.

Large tubing, depending on the wall thickness, diameter and length can be cut with laser, cold saw or bandsaw. The bandsaw is the method that requires more time sawing and has less precision, so it is not suitable for small tubing. Laser cutting can work with increasingly smaller diameters, but still does not allow to cut diameters between 6 and 8 mm.
